CODY, Wyo., Dec. 20, 2023 – Registration has opened for the Meeteetse Ice Fishing Derby, set for the first weekend in February 2024. The perennially popular festival – one of the largest annual ice fishing festivals in the U.S. – drew more than 300 participants last year.

The competition takes place at the Upper Sunshine Reservoir.

“The fishing derby is always fun and never cold as long as you wear the proper clothing,” said Ryan Hauck, executive director of Cody Yellowstone, the marketing arm for the region. “If the fish are game, so are the rest of us.”

The derby kicks off Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, with a party at the Elkhorn Bar & Grill. The competition begins on Saturday, and participants will spend the day fishing Upper Sunshine Reservoir followed by a fundraiser dinner. The next day, fishing switches to Lower Sunshine Reservoir starting at 8 a.m., with weigh-in between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. that afternoon. Awards and winners will be announced at 4:30 p.m.

Registration is $125 for each team of up to three people. A separate “Small Fry” category for individuals 14 and younger is free. To register, go to www.meeteetsewy.com or call 307-868-2454.
