Nightlife in Cody/Yellowstone Country
If you’re like me, you love to pack as much as possible into your vacation. Cody/Yellowstone Country is a great place to do that! In fact, I recommend you spend at least two nights in Cody so you don’t miss a thing. Be sure you don’t forget about the evenings when planning your trip to Cody/Yellowstone Country. You might not be aware of the “nightlife” here. Here are my suggestions for planning a night on the town!
The Cody Nite Rodeo runs every night all summer long so it is easy to fit into your schedule. Cody is known as the “Rodeo Capital of the World” so it is no wonder that many of America’s top cowboys started their rodeo careers in Cody. Some even compete back in Cody from time to time. No matter what night you attend, you can be sure that you will see some great performances. If you have kiddos, be sure they compete in the nightly “calf scramble.” Children in the audience are asked to enter the arena and chase a calf with a ribbon tied to its tail. Whoever gets the ribbon, wins a prize. It is great fun for the kids and hysterical for the parents. Everyone will enjoy the antics of the rodeo clown as he banters with the announcer and the contestants.
If you want to experience a bit of the Old West, mosey over to the porch of the Irma Hotel at 6:00 p.m. for a melodrama performed by the Cody Gunfighters. You might notice the crowds gathering on the street. Be prepared for a gunfight to breakout in the streets of Cody! This FREE 45 minute show is performed in the street with colorful characters like Buffalo Bill, Calamity Jane, Wild Bill Hickok, and Wyatt Earp. The show is great for the whole family. After the show, the gunfighters will be happy to pose for photos with you.
If you like music, you don’t want to miss Dan Miller’s Cowboy Music Revue in the historic Cody Theatre. This Branson/style music variety show happens Monday through Saturday all summer long at 8:00 p.m. Dan and his “Empty Saddle Band” perform songs of the American West, Americana, Bluegrass and cowboy poetry and is suitable for the whole family. You might be surprised that Cody has such a high caliber show! The show is a must-see while visiting Cody/Yellowstone Country. The Irma Hotel has partnered with the Cowboy Music Revue for dinner/show packages that can be purchased at the Irma Hotel. Plan a great evening with the Irma’s famous prime rib buffet and cowboy music.
In staying with the western theme, you can head out to the Cody Cattle Company’s dinner and live western music show. Enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet with brisket, baked chicken, baked potatoes, baked beans and more. For a bit more, you can add steak to your meal. After dinner, sit a spell and enjoy the music. Expect western favorites like Tumbling Tumbleweeds and Ghost Riders in the Sky. The music show ends so that you have enough time to head out to the rodeo. You can purchase the Trifecta Ticket that includes the dinner, show and rodeo that offers a small discount.
Many of Cody’s restaurants and and bars offer live musical entertainment and dance bands on Friday and Saturday nights. No matter what you choose, you will have a wonderful evening in Cody! Just remember, don’t wear yourself out during the day so you can enjoy an exciting western evening!
Until next time, I’ll be lovin the western life in Cody/Yellowstone Country,
