Cody Featured on Season Finale of PBS Hometowns; First Time Popular Series Has Featured a Western Destination
The destination of Cody was the focus of the Season 1 finale of PBS Hometowns, a series produced by PBS Appalachia Virginia. The half-hour
episode was the first one of the 10-show series to feature a destination in the American West.
The episode featured several popular Cody Yellowstone attractions including Heart Mountain WWII Interpretive Center, Buffalo Bill Center of the West, UXU Ranch, Sitti’s Table, Pat’s Brew House and Cody Nite Rodeo.
Series producer Jacob Dellinger and show host Joshua Deel visited the iconic destination in August 2024 and interviewed several Cody residents and leaders and filmed scenic footage of the region.
Interviews included:
- Johnny Tim Yellowtail, historic site caretaker at Heart Mountain WWII Interpretive Center and a member of the Apsáalooke Nation.
- Logan Christie, director of operations at Heart Mountain WWII Interpretive Center.
- John Hoskin, owner of UXU Ranch, a historic dude ranch situated 17½ miles from the East Gate to Yellowstone National Park.
- Porter Koury, owner of Sitti’s Table, a popular downtown restaurant featuring Lebanese-inspired cuisine.
- Norfleet Gifford, owner Pat’s Brew House, the only female-owned brewery in Wyoming.
- Ed Bednarz, general manager of Cody Nite Rodeo.
- Bob Richard, a historian, photographer, author and life-long resident of Cody whose grandfather was a friend of town founder Buffalo Bill
Cody. Richard was interviewed at the Whitney Western Art Museum at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, a Smithsonian-affiliated in downtown Cody that includes five museums.
“Cody was honored to be the first Western destination featured in this insightful and delightful PBS series, and I think Jacob and Josh did an incredible job of capturing the spirit and beauty of the destination and its people through their interviews, stunning footage and eloquent writing,” said Ryan Hauck, executive director of Cody Yellowstone, the marketing arm for the region that includes the towns of Cody, Powell and Meeteetse, a large swath of the Shoshone National Forest and about half of Yellowstone National Park.
According to Dellinger and Deel the program sets out to “uncover the soulful narratives behind the diverse communities worldwide, delving into the captivating stories of how these places came to life and the heartfelt reasons they remain cherished places to the people who call them home.”
The episode is available for streaming on YouTube and PBS Appalachia Virginia.
